Lead editor Rich Ferguson created the concept Beat Not Beat and worked with the three outstanding poets below to put together this anthology. Ferguson was selected by the National Beat Poetry Foundation, Inc. (NBPF), to serve as the State of California Beat Poet Laureate (Sept. 2020 to Sept. 2022). He is a featured performer in the film, What About Me? featuring Michael Stipe, Michael Franti, k.d. lang, Rich has shared the stage with Patti Smith, Wanda Coleman, Moby, and other esteemed poets and musicians. His poetry and award-winning spoken-word music videos have been widely anthologized, and he was a winner in Opium Magazine’s Literary Death Match, L.A. He is the author of the poetry collection, 8th& Agony (Punk Hostage Press), and the novel, New Jersey Me (Rare Bird Books). Ferguson’s newest poetry collection, Everything is Radiant Between the Hates, was published in January 2021 by Moon Tide Press.

Alexis Rhone Fancher is published in Best American Poetry, Rattle,Verse Daily, The American Journal of Poetry,Plume, Diode, Flock, and elsewhere. A universe in sleep’s clothing, S.A. Griffin lives, loves and works in Los Angeles. The author of Dreams Gone Mad with Hope (Punk Hostage Press) and the soon to be released Pandemic Soul Music (Punk Hostage Press), S.A. is a Carma Bum and the co-editor of Beat Not Beat (Moon Tide Press) and The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry (Firecracker Award). Widely anthologized, he has been nominated for multiple Pushcart Awards. In 2010 he went on a five-week, 11,000 mile couch surfing tour of the U.S. with Elsie the Poetry Bomb, a 7 foot tall Vietnam era practice bomb converted into an art object filled with over 900 poems from around the world and all walks of life in an effort to spread Elsie’s message that we must learn to disagree, the essential core of all democratic process and civil discourse, or our Republic is lost. In 2012 S.A. was the first recipient of Beyond Baroque’s Distinguished Service Award. A Vietnam era veteran of the USAF, husband, father and cat lover, he drives too fast, thinks too much and sleeps too little.

Kim Shuck is a poet, activist and visual artist from San Francisco. Shuck served for 3 1/2 years as San Francisco's 7th Poet Laureate. Her most recent work include her 9th solo book Noodle, Rant, Tangent and a collaboration with LisaRuth Elliott, a handbound edition of poems and collages What Unseen Thing Blows Wishes Across my Surface which will also be an art exhibition at the San Francisco Main Library beginning in November.
