Beat Not Beat, published by Moon Tide Press in October 2022 is an anthology of both living and dead California poets that have a connection, both direct and through influence, to a generation and movement with beginnings attributed to the 1950s.
What’s different about this Beat-inspired collection is that it isn’t a history book glorifying the past, separating values of rebellion and artistic freedom from now. Rather, this book includes the work of influential poets Bob Kaufman, Charles Bukowski, Diane di Prima alongside contemporary poets Lynne Thompson, Luis J. Rodriguez and former United States Poet Laureate Robert Hass. This anthology moves the beat along, integrating the words of the living and the dead, bringing attention to the continued spirit of a time and place. |
A Beat Not Beat blog with guest artists writing, reeling, moving, changing and rearranging ideas on what beat not beat is, was and could be.
